Lesson 28 · about 2 minutes
Weekend, free, come here often
shuumatsu wa? · hima desu ka? · yoku koko ni kimasu ka?
You'll learn three light small-talk lines for weekends, free time, and "do you come here often?"
The words
| Romaji | Japanese | Reading | Meaning | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| shuumatsu wa? | しゅうまつは | how about the weekend? / any weekend plans? | |
| hima desu ka? | ひま ですか | are you free? / got spare time? | |
| yoku koko ni kimasu ka? | よく ここ に きますか | do you come here often? |
How they differ
Friendly check-ins, not pressure:
「しゅうまつは なに を しますか?」(shuumatsu wa nani o shimasu ka?): what are you doing this weekend?
「どようび ひま ですか?」(doyoubi hima desu ka?): are you free Saturday?
「よく ここ に きますか?」— café / gym / event small talk
ひま = free time (not busy). Soft no: 「ちょっと いそがしい です」(chotto isogashii desu). よく = often — pairs with きます from Wave C.
Keep the tone curious and optional; these open a chat, they don't demand a yes.
Chat sparks: weekend · free? · often here? しゅうまつ = Sat–Sun pocket, ひま = open calendar, よく ここ に = regular at this spot.
One line:
Next: Light compliments:
