The words

RomajiJapaneseReadingMeaning
norimasuのりますのりますget on / ride (polite)
orimasuおりますおりますget off (polite)
norikaemasuのりかえますのりかえますtransfer / change (trains, buses) (polite)

How they differ

Vehicle + に + のります / おります:

「でんしゃ に のります」(densha ni norimasu): get on the train

「つぎ で おります」(tsugi de orimasu): get off at the next (stop/station)

「えき で のりかえます」(eki de norikaemasu): transfer at the station

に (ni) marks what you board. で (de) often marks where you get off or transfer.

のりかえます is のり + かえ — "ride, then change." Same かえる family feel as かえります, but different job.

Door cycle: on · off · switch. のる = hop on, おりる = step off, のりかえる = hop on something else.

One line: のる・おりる・のりかえる.

Next: Near, far, and walking: ちかい / とおい / あるいて — when transit isn't worth it.
