La caja de fotos
The Box of Photos
A father opens an old box of photographs and shares one beloved memory of each family member with his curious daughter.
—¿Qué hay en esa caja, papá?
"What's in that box, Dad?"
Marta no podía esperar más.
Marta couldn't wait any longer.
Su padre sopló el polvo.
Her father blew off the dust.
Dentro había muchas fotos viejas.
Inside there were many old photos.
—Ven, siéntate aquí conmigo.
"Come, sit here with me."
Sacó la primera foto.
He took out the first photo.
—Esta es tu bisabuela Rosa.
"This is your great-grandmother Rosa."
—Ella cocinaba un pan increíble.
"She baked incredible bread."
—Toda la casa olía a canela.
"The whole house smelled of cinnamon."
Marta cerró los ojos un momento.
Marta closed her eyes for a moment.
—¿Y este hombre serio?
"And this serious man?"
—Es tu abuelo Antonio.
"That's your grandfather Antonio."
—Parecía duro, pero contaba chistes malísimos.
"He seemed tough, but he told terrible jokes."
—Nos reíamos hasta llorar.
"We'd laugh until we cried."
El padre pasó a otra foto.
The father moved to another photo.
—Mira, tu tía Lucía de joven.
"Look, your aunt Lucía when she was young."
—Ella nunca tenía miedo a nada.
"She was never afraid of anything."
—Una vez saltó de un puente al río.
"Once she jumped off a bridge into the river."
—¡Igual que tú! —dijo riendo.
"Just like you!" he said, laughing.
Quedaba una sola foto.
One single photo remained.
Su padre dudó un segundo.
Her father hesitated for a second.
—Esta es mi favorita.
"This one is my favorite."
En la foto había una niña pequeña.
In the photo there was a little girl.
—Espera... esa niña soy yo.
"Wait... that girl is me."
—Sí. Y de ti me encanta todo.
"Yes. And about you, I love everything."
—Pero sobre todo, tus preguntas.
"But above all, your questions."
Marta abrazó la caja contra el pecho.
Marta hugged the box against her chest.
—Entonces algún día contaré tu foto.
"Then someday I'll tell about your photo."
